On Friday 29th January, Mark Harper was pleased to welcome his colleague, David Evennett MP, Shadow Minister for Innovation, Universities and Skills, to the Forest of Dean for a visit to Hartpury College.
At Hartpury College the two MPs met with Principal Malcolm Wharton along with the Principal of the Royal Forest of Dean College, Janak Patel. Hartpury specializes in sports, equine, veterinary and land management studies and will soon celebrate its 60th anniversary. The college has experienced great academic success in the past decades and was recently graded ‘outstanding’ in an Ofsted report published in the beginning of this year. The college was given a grade 1, the highest possible, for all cross college aspects of its work and was one of only three land-based colleges in Britain to be graded as outstanding.
The tour allowed David Evennett to see the excellent standard of education provided by Hartpury in sports and also to hear about the likewise first-rate standards at Royal Forest of Dean College.
“We are privileged to enjoy a high standard of further and higher education in our county, and I was proud to show David an example of the excellent learning institutions in my constituency. It was great to be able to show off Hartpury College and to have Malcolm and Janak on hand to tell David about what we’ve managed to achieve here,” Mark commented afterwards.
