Forest MP welcomes MYP for 11 Million Day

02 November 2009

Mark Harper, MP for the Forest of Dean, will be accompanied by Chelsey Walsh, MYP (member of the youth parliament) for the Forest and Gloucester as he carries out his constituency duties on Friday 6th November for 11 Million Day.

11 Million Day gets its name from the number of children in the country and to mark the occasion, on the initiative of the Children’s Commissioner, MYPs have invited their constituency partners to allow them to shadow or takeover their role for a day and Mark has chosen to take part.

Commenting on the 11 Million Day, Mark said:

“I think 11 Million Day is a great idea and I am glad to be part of it. One of the things I am keen on is getting young people involved and engaged in politics. Having Chelsey working alongside me for a day will give her the chance to see exactly what it is that I do in my role as MP for the Forest of Dean. I hope that what she sees strengthens her interest in politics and encourages her to take that further in the future.”
